Executive Travel wants to help plant 1 million trees in Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Executive Travel aims to plant 1 million trees across Nebraska within the next several years.

The initiative started after Executive Travel decided it wanted to minimize its carbon footprint.

So the travel agency partnered with Nebraska’s natural resources districts to plant one tree for each plane ticket purchased through it.

“Just in the last 18 months, we’ve already planted over 111,000 trees in Nebraska,” Chairman Steve Glenn said. “That’s just the beginning. We’re going to get to a million in the next several years. We think it’s exciting for us because it’s one thing to talk about the environment and say the quality of life is important, but now we get to do things about it.”

Glenn believes that these trees eliminate tons and tons of carbon from our environment.

The NRDs are now able to plant thousands more trees than before and are able to spread them out more evenly across the state.

In 2023 alone, the districts have planted more than 598,000 trees, with over 62,000 funded by Executive Travel.

“We put in an order in November with Bessey Tree Nursery for the types of trees landowners are requesting,” said Dean Edson, executive director of the Nebraska Association of Resources Districts. “And then we help people approach the district in their area and figure out if a tree planting service is offered through us or the private sector.”
